All the Rules Here at CHA
« Thread Started on Jul 2, 2008, 5:52pm »

Forum Rules

General Rules of The Forum:

1) Discrimination: Any kind of it will not be tolerated. Simple enough. Racist, sexist, whatever. I don't care. If it's discriminatory, you're gone.

2) Respect the staff and your fellow members.

3) Unless it is an extreme case, bans will go as follows:

Official Reminder of the Rules
3 Official Warnings
Temporary Ban For A Month
2nd Official Reminder of the Rules
3 More Warnings
Permanent IP, Username, and Email Ban

4) All issues with a staff member must be carried out through PM. If you have a problem with what a staff member said to you when they had to remind you of the rules in your thread, then please don't make it public.

5) You cannot post anywhere IC until your character has been accepted.

6) Spam: I hate it, whether its meat form or not. We don't tolerate it. Spam of any kind is only allowed in the Advertising/Affiliate board, and we limit it to one thread per site.

7) If you are a member on CHA, we ask you to do these following things:

-Create a character
-Be an active member. We understand if you have to go into the magical disappearing box for a week or two - we all have lives, hard as it is to believe - but we ask that you at least give us a notice and come back.
-Post both OOC and IC. This is an RPG forum, so we put more stress on the latter, but we all like to let other people know our real selves, so we also ask that you post OOC as well.

8) Swearing: We'll allow it, but if it gets out of hand, it's gone. Simple enough to understand.

9) This site is PG-13. Anything above that - NC-17, R, XXX, M, whatever - needs to be appropriately marked.

10) You can have as many characters as you want, but please put them in different accounts and please make sure they are all active!

11) Necromancy, AKA bringing threads back from the dead, is not allowed. If the thread's been dead for a few months, you don't really need to post in it.

General IC Posting Rules:

1) FIVE LINES. That is our posting minimum. Cannot stress it enough. Anything less, and you get a warning. We love more though. [Add "hell on earth" to the bottom of you app in Red] Really. If you feel like making a big 10 paragraph post, go ahead. We'd really love you if you did.

2) No OOC Knowlede is to be used in IC posting! Simple enough to understand.

3) Posting Etiquette! What am I talking about? Two things:

a) You have to be respectful of other RPers in three or more Roleplaying threads (Save for parties and such things). Unless someone appears like they've gone in that magic disappearing box and doesn't look like they're coming back for a long time, you have to follow a posting order. ALSO, unless sorted out earlier, you must be in the thread by the end of the first page (Once again, not counting parties). So, like this

Person A starts the thread.
Person B joins.
Person A and Person B make three posts each, making the total number of replies at 7.
Person C joins.
Posting order is now A, B, C.
Person A, B, and C all make a post, making the number of thread replies at 11.
Person D joins.
Posting order is now A, B, C, D.
And so on.

b) Make an attempt to keep the amount of content in your post equal to what your RP-ing partner(s) gave you. While I know that all of our muses are sometimes not in it, and that we're not all capable of 400 word posts or whatever, at least try.

4) Spell Check. Please. For the love of all that is good in the world, use that button. It is your friend.

5) Grammar. Check over each post for the correct stuff.

6) n3! sP3@k, lyyk t#iS iS n0! @110w3d iF u r c@ught d0In& t#is ic u wil b wrnd.

7) We post in third person, past tense. No idea what that is? Google, ask, yahoo, Wikipedia. Don't care what you use to learn about this.

8) Mary-Sues and Gary Stues! Ah, I hate this guys. Perfect charries in other words, aka, the smartest, prettiest/handsomest, strongest, most-liked person in the entire flipping world. There are other variations to this - such as the Angst Sue - "My parents used to abuse me everyday, I've had no friends, I've got AIDS, and my sister's being held prisoner by my cousin!" - The Bland Sue - "There's really nothing about me that's interesting, I'll just develop myself how I want while I RP" - and so on. They aren't allowed.

9) Going hand in hand with Sue and Stu, Drama Kings and Queens. Not allowed. No "OMG I BROKE A NAIL, I'M GOING TO GO COMMIT SUICIDE NOW BAI" stuff.

10) Your character is not the hero. Simple enough to understand. The world does not revolve, nor depend on them.

11) Mean characters are allowed. Don't let them rub off on you.

12) Be realistic. As in, no "Oh, I just met you Sarah, but I'm in love with you" or "I'm a witch." This is a boarding school in Brooklyn, people. Not Hogwarts. We like realistic stuff.

13) Godmoding. I hate it, you hate it, so what's not to understand? None of that stuff.

14) Your character does not have a bunch of amazing powers. Once more, boarding school in Brooklyn.

15) Please put (open) in the thread title if you have it open to anyone joining in or (closed) or (-insertcharacter'snamehere-) if you have it closed to a specific person(s).

16) Read everything in a thread before joining. You might miss something important.

17) OOC Tags. Use them if you need to, but all posts in a thread must be IC. If you make an all OOC post, this is spam, which I mentioned earlier is something I hate. If you really need to let someone know something that has absolutely nothing to do with the thread, take it to the PMS.

Chatbox Rules:

Rules for the Chatbox

1) There is ABSOLUTELY no advertising.

2) Spamming, trolling, flaming, arguing, etc, will not be tolerated. It greatly annoys many people and drives people away from using the chatbox for what it is meant to be used for: A fun way to talk to other people on this forum.

3) Impersonating members is NOT allowed and will give you a place in the bad book of staff members. It's rude, I think it's illegal, and if you do it, you will suffer the consequences. Because we can check IP's and we know when you've been doing so.

4) Spreading rumors about other members, etc, stuff like that that you're not supposed to do in school yet still do it when there is only one person on besides yourself is frowned up here.

5) More of a common sense thing, but please hold any and all private conversations off-forum. The chatbox is not the place for those. And if you have an issue with another member, don't post in the chatbox with something like: "So-and-so is so annoying, ban them plzkthnx" just PM a staff member and explain why you find them annoying and such.

Crescent Hill Rules

Attention Students and Staff of Crescent Hills Academy:
This is your Headmistress speaking. Here at Crescent Hills, we are not entirely strict, but we are stern and most, if not all of our rules were made to be followed in the manner they are stated in. Some of you may believe that some of these rules don't have to be followed, but do not try to fool yourself. Anyone found abusing or disregarding these rules will be punished. I find them quite simple to follow, so I hope you will as well.

- There will be no food in dormitories. It is simply not allowed. The school cafeteria is always open; if you get hungry, go there.

- Students must attend classes. They may enter a class at any given time (but are not to disturb the class), but they must leave when the teacher has announced the class is over.

- Teachers have their own lesson plans. Learn what your teacher's is. Teachers, note that no actual work is to be given out to students.

- What your Headmistress says, goes.

- No more than five students to any dormitory room. Unless otherwise requested, only one teacher to a dorm room.

Thank you. That is all for now.

Basic RPG Rules

Simply just to clarify. RPGing is an abbreviation for Role Play Gaming. You make a character (they can be based on you or not, nobody has to know), and basically play out their life as a story. It is from an involved 3rd person perspective, so no:

"I walked down the hall and saw a cat."

It would instead be:

"Bob walked down the hall and saw a cat."

But please don't post like that. One-liners are not accepted here for they make for plain and boring role-play.

Staying In-Character (IC)
You can be as creative as possible - as long as you stay in character! For instance, let's say Bob has a furious temper and is always angry. You wouldn't end up writing like this:

"Bob woke up and was happy for no reason. He looked outside and saw a pretty butterfly and thought how great everything was."

If you want your character to have a personality change, make it gradual and over time, so that it seems realistic. While we want you to be creative, you must remember there are boundaries, and we want this to be as realistic as possible!

Descriptions
We also want you to be descriptive. You don't have to write a whole novel here, but it'd be nice to throw in some color here and there! :D Let's spice up this sentence:

"Bob went outside."

Okay, now...

"Bob walked out of the entrance doors to outside, where he noticed it was freezing cold. I wish I brought my jacket now, Bob thought. He shivered, but continued walking through the deep snow."

We like to create settings. :) Even if the setting is bland, describe it's blandness!

Spelling and Grammar
Now of course, we come to grammar and spelling. Notice the spell check button under the post so you don't have to make unnecessary spelling mistakes. It's very irritating to read a post full of unnecessary spelling mistakes. Now, nobody's perfect, so I expect there will be little mistakes, but no need to exceed fifteen in a post.

And absolutely NO netspeak. It's extremely annoying to read. It's fine in moderation in OOC boards, but in character, please don't.

Jump In/Interruptions
Another important rule in role-play is to go along with what's happening if you're just jumping into a conversation. Now if Susan is talking to Lisa and Bob wants to talk to Susan, would he just randomly start talking to Susan and cut off Lisa? No. Let's have some examples, hmm?

BAD EXAMPLE
"So, are you going to the dance with anyone yet?" Lisa asked Susan curiously.

Susan blushed. She'd been wanting to ask Bob for ages. "No...not yet," she squeaked.

"Hey Susan, will you go to the dance with me?" Bob asked.

DO NOT DO THAT, I beg of you! :)

GOOD EXAMPLE
"So, are you going to the dance with anyone yet?" Lisa asked Susan curiously.

Susan blushed. She'd been wanting to ask Bob for ages. "No...not yet," she squeaked.

Bob caught sight of Susan and waved to her, but she didn't notice him because she was talking to Lisa. He went up to the two girls. "Hey, you guys."

(Give them time to answer if you're introducing yourself, unless your character isn't the type of person to do so. XD)

Lisa smiled at Bob. "Hey Bob," she said.

Susan blushed. "Hey Bob."

Bob said hi again, but then turned to Susan. "Um, Susan? Could I talk to you alone?"

"Sure Bob," Susan nodded. "Is that okay, Lisa?"

"Yeah, sure. I'll get going now!" Lisa exclaimed. She watched her two friends go off. "Good luck," she mouthed to Susan before going back inside.

God-Modding
Will not be tolerated, at all. God-modding is basically taking total control over someone else's character and deciding what they do. Here's an example:

Bob walked by Lisa. Lisa saw him and gave him a hug.

Now, maybe Lisa didn't want to give him a hug, hmm? ;) Just don't control another person's character. Also, another form of god-modding is knowing what the person is thinking. Now we all know we like to put what our character is thinking in our posts. It's not cool, however, when someone else can "read" your character's mind. Here's an example:

Wow, Bob thought. Susan's really pretty.

"So you really think I'm pretty, Bob?" Susan asked.

Now unless Bob has previously said, "Susan, I think you're pretty," how can Susan know Bob thinks she's pretty? She doesn't. So keep it that way.

In Places
PLEASE do not be in more than 3 places at once. It gets very confusing if you are. We'd like to keep it simple here.

Most Important Rule
Now, for the most important rule in role-play...-drum roll-...

HAVE FUN!

This forum was made for fun and that's what we're here for. So please enjoy yourselves!

Thank you!
