History of Theatre Curse
Student's Syllabus
Professor: Randi Morrison
Office Hours:[/u] Wherever you need to talk to me.
General Description of the Curse:[/u]
The first part of History of Theatre will focus on the basic theatric codes and important definitions of this art. It will also trace the history since the very begining, in Greece, until the Reinassence period in England and its Elizabethan Theatre. The student will be introduced to a selected group of plays, most of them the most importants or representative of their specific period in history.
Objectives:[/u]
1. The student will develop a read-and-analize system based on the plays given in class.
2. The student will learn to identify and compare the differents aspects that took theatre from its humble beginings to its spectacular present.
3. The students will have the right to choose between performing a final play in front of the school, or a final written exam as their final curse presentation.
Evaluation system:
Two (2) written exams -> 100 points each
One (1) final presentation/1 final test -> 100 points
Three (3) pop quizzes -> 25 points each
Daily Participation and Assistance ->100 points given at the end of the semestre.
Here's how the participation points works:
-Each student starts with 0 points. During the semester, the student has to give reasons why the teacher should give points from that punctuation.
-The assistance points will be given in the end of the semester. Depending on the numbers of absence [except those justifiable] will be the number of points the teacher will give.
-The student will get points by formulating questions or doubts that creates a healthy athmosphere of discussion during the class hours.
-Points will also be given by stating comments of your oppinion of the play. Saying "I liked it/didn't liked it" will generate a "why?". Answering "because", and giving an explanation of why the student liked/didn't liked the play will give points to the student. However, answers like "because it sucked", or "because I liked it" will not generate points in the student's chart.
-The teacher can take points away from the chart if the student violate any of the classroom rules.

Class rules
I'm not a fan of rules. However, I'm in love with theatre, it's my passion, and I ask for a bit of courtesy and respect for this beautiful manifestation of art. So:
1. No chewing gum during the class. No eating, no drinking, no smoking. This is a class where talking is very important, and knowing society this days, the popular people don't want someone taking a picture of themselves with chewing gum all over their teeths while talking. Also, I'll be taking points from Participation every time I see someone chewing gum.
2. Your assistance to class is a MUST. A final evaluation will be done according to your assistance and participation during the class. That's an easy A note, why wasting it? I don't give lessons to souless bodies that are just occuping a chair.
3. Pop quizzes and exams are NOT going to be repeated unless stated by a medical excuse/circumstances. Don't try to fool me, guys. I have a clever eye for Photoshop works. If you have any problem that doesn't allow you to take an exam, talk to me, my office is always open.
4. If I ever ask for an essay -which I don't think I will-, write it on your computer and print it. Handwritting will only be accepted on the exams. And speaking of exams,
5. You are allowed to ONLY use black or blue pen to answer my tests. If you write it with a pencil (unless you want to get an F) you'll have to come to my office to pass it to another paper. I'll only take 10 points away from your grade because of this.
6. It's mandatory to bring your books and notebooks/laptops to the class. Bring notes with questions or doubts so you can participate in class And please, read the plays/essays I ask you to for the day I ask you to. I don't like to have to give my class to empty chairs.
7. The cellphone's gotta go. Meaning, turn it off before getting inside my classroom. Please.
8. And, the most important rule: bring your imagination with you. Humans were given with a very beautiful thing, and that was imagination and creativity, please don't leave them behind. I welcome discussion and freedom of speech and though, so please bring your ideas with you once you enter my classroom.
Any question or doubt, you're always welcome to ask me anytime you're pleased. I'm not only your teacher, but also your friend.
Good luck!
